The Bay of Plenty has topped the country for economic growth, according to the latest Priority One report released.
The report indicates GDP growth of 4.8 per cent - well above the national average of 2.5 per cent.
'I'm very pleased to hear of this result, but when I consider the vibe I am getting around town I can't say I'm totally surprised,” says Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller.
'Our local economy really is thriving and everyday people are seeing the benefits.”
Employment growth is also sitting at 5.1 per cent, above the 2.7 per cent national average, 4178 jobs have been created in the last year.
'It's easy to view 4178 jobs created as an abstract number, but when you consider that this is 4178 more local people engaged in meaningful employment, contributing to the economy and providing for both themselves and their families it really is a great achievement.
'There are benefits for the region of this economic growth, but there are also personal benefits for individuals linked to paid employment such as higher self-esteem, a sense of purpose and an increased standard of living.”

None of this growth matters to most of the ordinary people living here. Funny how there is all this growth in the economy and no real growth in wages and living standards. Ask the Sallies and Budget advisors and see the true growth figures for THE PEOPLE here.
