Consents complaints investigation

Tauranga City Council chief executive Garry Poole.

Following complaints from some members of the public relating to building consents, Tauranga City Council has initiated an independent review.

"We have engaged independent reviewer BDO to investigate these complaints, which we expect to be completed in late March or early April," says Tauranga City Council chief executive Garry Poole.

"It has a broad scope and will look at all parts of our building consent process.”

Garry says Tauranga City Council has a responsibility to the community to consider the complaints and 'we are confident we are following a fair and reasonable process”.

"Given the review is now underway, we will not be making any further comment. It is important to allow the review to run its course."

What the hell???

Garry Poole, as CEO, should himself initiate this review, IN HOUSE, and he should oversee it. Why has it become the norm to farm out work which should be done by those the ratepayers pay? Yet again, fail, Garry. BDO don't come cheap, and that's our money you're spending. What happened to using the facts to hand, sitting around a table in council, and thrashing out the problem until it is solved? All too hard? Seems it is. High time we all saw your job description in print. Seems to be it differs greatly from the accepted brief of a CEO.

Garry Poole predetermines outcome

The investigation, it would seem that the chief executive has predetermined the outcome of the alleged independent investigation into the building consent processes at Tauranga City Council., expressing his complete confidence that under his management they will come out squeaky clean. It is grossly inappropriate for the CEO to make such a public statement which can be interpreted as a clear message to those conducting the investigation in regards his expected outcome. IF the investigation was to include totally confidential feedback opportunities in particular for regular clients, I have absolutely no doubt that the final report would be significantly less than favorable.

The CEO would never do that if there was a risk of the truth coming out. Right now there are a raft of serious complaints on the table at TCC and the investigation is now unavoidable. But this will eb part of a whitewash effort to protect staff , jobs and the dictatorial means of operation that has been in existence for years.

Council abuses consents process

I am not in the building industry, but friends who are say that council will wait until the consent response deadline then ask a silly question which then delays things further. This really is an abuse of process in my view.

The entire council should have a JOB DESCRIPTION - highlighting areas that they should NOT be involved in. Council have free reign to interfere and get involved in many things that should be none of their business

Another cover up is well under way ... the end result again will be that the ratepayers get slugged.

This is all about controlling the investigation before the SFO gets full involved.

To clarify, the CEO needs to farm out the review to a friendly party so as to get a soft result and so no ramifications for the minions within. To do otherwise will risk revealing just how bad it is, can not have that.

Nothing like a good bit of spit and polish to get a nice and shiny new thing ... so that the reflection is better and can not see the truth of it. In short it is called a "White-wash".
