Hundreds of people descended on McLaren Falls to watch the screening of Pete Dragon.

Night Owl Cinema hosted the screening last night and is part of Tourism Bay of Plenty's ‘No Place Like Home' campaign.

Waimarino ran Waka Tours, hosted a Holiday and After-School programme tent with free dragon-themed face painting, plus the glow worm kayak tour was operating, with bookings in advance necessary.

The Falls Café also opend later than usual, giving movie goers a chance to wander along the scenic lakeside track to the café and information centre for a bite to eat and a hot chocolate.

'There was over a hundred people there,” says movie goer Ange August.

'It was a beautiful night under the stars, well organised, also had a lady singing beforehand. She was really good.”

Melissa Cox was the singer who took to the stage before the screening of the locally filmed movie. Check out a video of her performing below.
