The Coromandel absolutely rocked over the long weekend with major music concert staged in Whangamata and Whitianga.

More than 4200 people danced the night away at Whangamata's Williamson Park for Shapeshifter's sold-out show on Saturday, while a 14,000 strong crowd packed out the Waterways Arena for the Whitianga Summer Concert on Sunday.

The Whangamata concert, which saw Shapeshifter supported by fellow Kiwi acts The Upbeats and P-Money, was the first ever major concert of its size to be held at Williamson Park.

Whangamata area manager Garry Towler says the event was hosted in association with the Thames-Coromandel District Council which aimed to ensure both the crowds and local residents not attending the concert were kept happy.

'Events like this can go one way or another. Everyone associated with the event was pleased with the behaviour and no official complaints were made.”

Over the past 10 years the use of Williamson Park has grown substantially providing a platform for a significant number of events over the Christmas period and into the shoulder months.

The recent re-development of the well-loved park has also rejuvenated its potential, making it another great venue for the Coromandel, adds Garry.

While the following day, the Whitianga Summer Concert featuring Icehouse, Alan Parsons Project and Bonnie Tyler wrapped up promoter Greenstone Entertainment's Summer Concert Tour in true Coromandel style.

The 14,000 strong crowds rocked to all-time favourites, singing along to the songs that defined a generation.

'The Greenstone Entertainment team and the artists had an amazing time throughout this year's Summer Concert Tour. We're proud to have been able to showcase this beautiful country to our international guests,” says CEO Amanda Calvert.

'We want to say a huge thank you to the 45,000 fans that came along to one of the three shows. It's a pleasure to see all the families, couples and groups of all ages having such a great time, and we look to bringing a whole new line up to our shores in 2018.”
