Emergency water shutdown for Omokoroa

File photo.

The water supply in Omokoroa has been shutdown this afternoon.

The emergency shutdown is expected to last until about 4.30pm.

The stoppage will enable emergency repairs to a major water main rupture on Omokoroa Road.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council reports a major water main was damaged shortly after midday by a drilling company, affecting water supply to all properties on the peninsula.

Council contractors are currently working to fix it.

It's not clear how long the repair will take, however residents are advised to plan for water to be unavailable until about 4.30pm this afternoon.

Affected residents can contact Council on 07 571 8008 if they require further information or support.
