The increase of people over the holiday season has seen an increase rubbish in the Mount Maunganui area.
This is evident with rubbish bins overflowing in Tay Street, Pilot Bay and the rest of the Mount.
Chris Glenn, from the Tauranga City Council's Resource Recovery and Waste team, says an extra run had been put on by the contractors to help to cope with the rubbish increase.
'With more people in town, and especially in the Mount, we do see an increase in rubbish during the holiday season.
'The bins are emptied at about 7am every day, and later around 3pm or 4pm.
'We have also increased the number of bins across the city, including 40 to 50 additional bins along the Mount to Papamoa strip.”
Chris says if there is an unusual amount of rubbish scattered or dumped throughout parks or on pavements, people are encouraged the public to call the Council call centre on 07 577 7000 and a team will be sent out to clean up the area.
'We would like to thank the public for their help in keeping our beautiful environment clean.”

This is a reoccurring theme throughout all public holiday periods here in the Mount. Chris Glenn from TCC needs to get in his car and take a look. With all the new housing going in everywhere it's only going to get worse . Come on TCC look after what we currently have !

to answer your question, fireworks, it never ceases to astound me how all ratepayer funded entities want to promote how good our place is yet tourists are greeted with this...., then there is the"Freedom camping" bylaw, has anyone seen the amount of trash and the number of overnighters sleeping in beach accesses from the Mount to Papamoa, if any council employee is out patrolling, they must be doing it with their eyes shut!, information please from the Council..... how many warnings and infringements have been handed out to " overstayers" .
WaterMad, did you read the article?

The article I read just said that an additional rubbish collection run had been added, along with 40-50 additional bins. I would think that this IS looking after what we have. Plus a phone number to contact if there was extra mess left that was unaccounted for. The alternative would be for council to ignore the seasonal problem wouldn't it? I don't think that's what we are seeing here. Be positive man.
Do your job

Great you have explained what you are doing. Let me assist a little here, ITS NOT ENOUGH. The influx of people to the Mount is not a new occurrence.
