Steamers win first home game

The Bay of Plenty Steamers out played North Harbour, after winning their first home game 39-17.

The first half of the game was dominated by the Steamers, with Sam Cane scoring the first try two minutes and 30 seconds into the game.

Luke McAlister looked set to retaliate, only to be shut down by the defence from the Steamers.

Eleven minutes into the game, Colin Burke kicked the ball with Lelia Masaga chasing the ball and scoring another try, bringing the score 14-0 to the home team.

The Bay of Plenty went into the second half leading 20 points to 3, after North Harbour kicked a penalty goal just before the end of first half.

Masanga opened the second half with another try, converted by Chris Noakes.

North Harbour's Matthew Luamanu answered Masanga's try with one of his own, bringing the score to 25-10.

After a long battle, in which both teams came close to scoring, only to concede penalties, Steamers player Ben Smith closed the game with a final try.
