Iconic singer Bunny Walters dies

Katikati native Bunny Walters, a popular singer of the 1970s, has passed away in Waikato Hospital today.

Bunny died following a short ilness, reports Stuff. He was surrounded by family.

He was 63-years-old.

Of Ngai Te Rangi descent, Bunny rose to prominence as a singer with such hits as ‘Brandy', ‘Nearest Thing to Heaven', ‘Home Isn't Home Anymore' and ‘Take the Money and Run'.

He was due to perform in his home town of Katikati at the community's Christmas in the Park event on December 3 at Moore Park.

But event organiser Jacqui Knight says the singer had to cancel due to illness.

Details of his funeral are expected to follow.

Played in backing band behind Bunny on a few occasions and always had a blast, great Kiwi character and iconic NZ entertainer. Those were the days, bro.
