The new Thames-Coromandel mayor, council and community board members were officially sworn in at the council's inaugural meeting on Tuesday.
The ceremony took place at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre.
Following a blessing by Ngati Maru kaumatua Wati Ngamane, Thames-Coromandel Mayor-Elect Sandra Goudie was sworn in and presented with the mayoral chains.
Sandra welcomed all the new and returning elected members while thanking her supporters who attended today's ceremony, including husband Bernard and her 91-year-old mother Mary Grant, "who still maintains exuberance for life, which is the envy of many.”
"I also want to acknowledge on this day those who have gone by, those who are here today, and those who follow in our footsteps," she says. "For all of us, it is an honour and a responsibility to represent our District."
Coromandel MP Scott Simpson and Waikato Regional Councillor Dal Minogue were also in attendance, along with the family and friends of the new elected members, as well as Council staff.
Coromandel-Colville Councillor Tony Brljevich has been appointed as Deputy Mayor. Tony took the Coromandel-Colville councillor seat unopposed in the local body elections.
"Tony has been a solid performer, having been Councillor for Coromandel-Colville for the previous two terms and has strong backing and the support of his community," says Sandra.
"I'm really looking forward to a very busy three years working with Tony, and the rest of our councillors and community board representatives in this term."
