Tauranga City Council is reporting Oropi Road will be closed to through traffic from the Chadwick Road roundabout to Maleme Street from 7pm to 6am on Wednesday this week.
This closure will allow contractors working on the Southern Pipeline project to move pipe in preparation for pulling into a drilled hole between Glenlyon Avenue and Chadwick Road.
There will be traffic management in place on Thursday, June 23.
Care is advised when driving through this area and delays are expected.
This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning, Monday, June 20, published below.
Sustainability
Get Sustainable Challenge Assessment
- Next week Tauranga City Council will undertake the Get Sustainable Challenge Assessment with the Sustainable Business Network. This assessment will assist council in considering efforts around sustainable practice to date and help identify areas for improvement.
City Waters
Water Supply:
- Water main upgrade pipe-work is currently being connected up in Ngatai Road and Vale Street ready for testing.
- Water main renewal on Maunganui Road between Nikau and Rata Street will be completed by 24 June.
- Water main upgrade contract on Panorama Drive and Kaitemako Road has been awarded and works are underway and will be completed by 17 June.
- Quote for the water main renewal contract on Whiore Ave has been accepted and works are now underway, completion due by mid June.
- Cleaning, inspection and any required maintenance work on the Waikite #1 Reservoir has been completed and the reservoir will be brought back on line shortly.
Drainage
- Three sewer blockages attended to this week. Two were relating to pump station faults and the other one was alongside the access track off Fraser Street where there has been pipe settlement and the Ac pipe has cracked. Works are presently underway to repair the pipeline.
- Repairs to the damaged sewer pipeline in the reserve between Cypress Street and Bell Street have been completed. The temporary flow by-pass pumping systems have been removed. The wet ground conditions will make reinstatement difficult so the plan is to make the walkway access useable and leave the disturbed ground/grass reinstatement until the area has dried sufficiently to be workable. Further and final pipeline reinstatement will also be done in drier conditions.
- Groundwater drainage improvements to the Johnson Reserve track are continuing. Works include some new culvert crossings and reshaping of swale drains to allow better draining.
- Repairs to a stormwater pipe in the Tuihana Drive area are ongoing.
- Drain cleaning works off the Fraser Street access track are planned to start within the next two weeks. The work is to mulch the vegetation (mangroves and noxious plants) and clean the drain to help restore the flows as this area has silted up our the rears.
- Waste watermain construction is in progress in Vale Road from Landscape Road towards Chapel Street. There is a speed restriction of 30 kilometres an hour in place at the construction site. A detour may be in place at times. Residents will have access to their properties.
Stormwater Pollution:
- No pollution incidents were reported to council this week.
Parks and Leisure
- A section of the Takitimu Drive walkway, below the Tauranga and Wharepai Domains, has been closed today. The closed section is from the West Street entrance to the first expressway overbridge approaching Elizabeth Street. The overbridge is still open. Reason for the closure is a landslip which occurred behind the Tauranga Domain during last weekend's heavy rain. The slip has been monitored this week and is today being excavated. Closure is for public safety during works and in anticipation of more heavy rain tomorrow. The slip is an archaeological site so the Council has been liaising with Historic Places Trust and local iwi. The track closure will be reviewed on Monday.
- Work is completed at the new McLaren Falls Park Visitor Service Centre building, only the car park to go. Design for a new toilet shower block for the bottom flat has been completed. The PD have started building a new track at Magnolia Gully.
- The skate rink at Memorial Park is getting its concrete surface refurbished. This initiative has been actioned by members of The Mount Skateboarding Association, and is hoped to be completed by the end of next week. The process involves concrete grinding to remove the current rough and weathered 30 year old surface, followed by polishing to bring the concrete to an as-new finish. The skaters successfully donated concrete benches to the area for people to skate at the end of last year, and love using the area. They are hoping to be able to add more skate structures to the site over time.
- The conservation zone restoration project on the dunes at Karewa Parade has been a great success. Motiti Road and Taylors Road dune park areas are running through the same clearing and planting process at the moment. We are putting in another 60,000 plants to restore the area. Motiti Road has had a beach-side stormwater pipe extended to protect the new plantings. Volunteer planting groups will have another busy season in Papamoa east.
- For some time our contractor has struggled to produce a successful result in the large round garden bed at Yatton Park due to disease in the soil that can not be effectively treated with permitted agrichemicals. The latest garden, planted just a few months ago, has already failed. This has led to the decision to completely remove the garden and turf. A new garden may be established near this area for the next planting season insummer.
- The Waikareao walkway between Goods Road and Coach Drive was closed for emergency tree works this afternoon.
