New building consents paperwork

The Thames-Coromandel District is now using building consent application forms and guides that are already in use by seven other councils across the Waikato region.

From this week, locals looking to carry out building projects will now be asked to use the new forms and guides which are available from the Waikato Building Consent Group's webpage.

The old forms have since been removed from the TCDC website and there will be no change to the fees and charges currently in effect.

Anyone who's has one of the old forms can still use it to apply for a consent, but only until October 31. After this date only Waikato Building Consent Group forms and guides will be accepted.

The group is a cluster of eight councils that works together to foster co-operation and consistency in building control functions, processes and documentation across the Waikato region.

Community environment manager Barry Smedts says the paperwork is the same across the group, which will be better for building companies operating across multiple districts in the Waikato.

'Our Building Unit will maintain the autonomy it has always had - which means you can still come to our offices and talk to our local team and benefit from local knowledge.

'But because we know that many builders don't just operate in one district, now you'll have the assurance of consistent systems and processes across the Waikato.”

The Waikato Building Consenting Group consists of the Thames-Coromandel, Hauraki, Otorohanga, Matamata-Piako, Waikato, Waipa and Waitomo district council, plus the Hamilton City Council.

Behind the scenes the Group works to a common quality assurance system and processes, in order to deliver greater consistency in legislative interpretation and delivery of building services.

'Another advantage of joining the group is being part of a stronger national voice for building matters through Group legislative submissions.

'We're looking forward to a great customer experience for people undertaking building projects in our district.”
