Fire fighters from Tauranga and Mount Maunganui were called to Tui Products in Hull Road on Monday morning after pea straw pallets caught fire in a cooler. Managing director Don Forgie says the damage is minimal and the palletiser will be back in action shortly.
Three fire fighting appliances attended the Monday morning fire at Tui Products.
The pea straw is palletised before passing through the cooler.
'Something in the cooler has caught alight and started smoking,” says Don.
'There is minimal damage. We should be back in business in 24 hours.”
Tui Products manufactures a number of growing media and fertilisers. Pea Straw pellets are used as garden mulch, says Don.
The alarm was raised at 7.15am and it was extinguished before 8am. Some roof panels were lifted to help remove smoke.
