Volunteers for needed for the 13 member advisory board that will be responsible for advancing the new Coromandel Arts and Creative Industries Strategy which council adopted in June.
Expressions of interest will be accepted from Thursday, September 15, up until Monday, October 17.
'Advisory board roles are voluntary and any expenses incurred in attending meetings will not be covered by the council. As this is a new structure, it will be up to the board to set its priorities and rules of operation, while complying with any funders' rules,” says council.
Key roles of the board include supporting priorities from action plans between tangata whenua, arts communities and community boards, leveraging funding from local, regional and national sources, and distributing funding from Creative New Zealand under the Creative Communities Scheme.
Of the 13 member board, one each will be selected from the Thames, Coromandel-Colville, Whangamata and Tairua-Pauanui community board areas, two from the Mercury Bay area, and one tangata whenua appointment from across the district.
'Appointments for the community board areas will be made by the relevant community board, with the tangata whenua representative to be appointed by the mayor,” explains council.
'There will also be four positions filled by community arts councils' appointments for Thames, Coromandel-Colville, Tairua-Pauanui and Whangamata, one appointment by the Hauraki Māori Trust Board and the appointment of one elected member by the mayor.”
The elected member will either be a councillor or community board member, adds council.
All appointments will be confirmed in November and the first meeting of the advisory board will take place on Friday, December 9, in order to make decisions on the December funding round of the Creative Communities Scheme.
'If you would like to be a part of this exciting new opportunity to take a leadership role with the vibrant arts community on the Coromandel, we would welcome your nomination,” says council.
