Sprint finish in Auckland Suva race

The Auckland Suva race finishes today, in what is expected to be a nail biting finish.

The Volvo ocean racer Camper is in the lead, pursued by the trimaran Team Vodafone Sailing.

Camper is in the lead in the Auckland Suva race.

At 10am, with 164nm to the finish, Camper was sailing at 15.6 knots with Team Vodafone in hot pursuit at 17.6 knots.

Since 10pm Wednesday, Team Vodafone has closed the distance by 40nm, but will still have to lift her speed to claim line honours.

Earlier today it was estimated Team Vodafone will take 13 hours to catch Camper, by which time Camper will have either finished, or still be two hours from the line – according to different estimates.

The wind is expected to increase on the final sprint to the finish with the trimaran lifting its speed to 26-29 knots for the final stages. It will still be a close run finish.
