'All you need to become an elected member, apart from being a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the parliamentary electoral roll, is a willingness to participate and a commitment to serve your community,” says a Thames-Coromandel District Council spokesperson.

At the time of writing, there's two mayoral candidates standing (Peter French and Sandra Goudie), and 15 councillor candidates across the Coromandel-Colville. Mercury Bay, South Eastern and Thames wards.

This is on top of are 31 nominations across the Coromandel-Colville, Mercury Bay, Tairua-Pauanui, Thames and Whangamata community boards.

'We're posting the nominations as they come in on our website. You can also find information about being a candidate and all the forms you need to fill out.”

Following three weeks of postal voting the local body elections will close at midday on Saturday, October 8, with preliminary results released by mid-afternoon.
