Murdered Guy relative farewelled

Family members of murdered farmer Scott Guy are among the 150 mourners attending the funeral of Andy Marshall in Tauranga.

Andy, a cousin of Scott Guy, was killed in a Perth bar on May 8 after being thrown through a window and falling seven metres to his death.

The coffin of Andy Marshall carried away by close family members including Jess, Benjamin and Katie Marshall.

His parents, Alan and Wendy Marshall, live in Tauranga and held their 29 year old son's funeral at their ‘home church', Bethlehem Baptist Church, today.

Scott Guy's father Bryan, and sister Anna MacDonald, wife of the man now charged with Scott's murder, were at the funeral.

Family gathered at the funeral included widow of Scott Guy, Kylee.

Bryan told SunLive after the service that he found it 'devastating” when he was told his nephew had been killed.

'It was so unexpected – the hardest thing was seeing Alan and Wendy go through what we went through with Scotty,” says Bryan.

He says Andy and Scott were close when they were young.

'They were very close. Andrew used to follow Scotty around everywhere and try to mimic him.”

Andy's parents originally lived in Fielding with the rest of the family before moving to Tauranga.

Police in Perth have charged 25 year old man Stefan Pahia Schmidt with Andy's murder.

Andy moved to Perth after separating from his wife, but regularly returned to Tauranga to visit his parents and other family members.

His mother Wendy spoke at the service, breaking down in tears and she thanked her son for '29 unforgettable years”.

'We loved him so much. His laughter will ring on and help wipe away our tears,” says Wendy.

Pastor Paul Bennetts from Life Church Christchurch, which Andy was a member of when he lived in the garden city, also paid tribute.

'There was so much wrong with the way Andy was taken from us. He was far too young.

'He was the most unlikely person to provoke anyone. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
