Traffic restrictions at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Devonport Road are continuing, enabling Southern Pipeline pipe laying.
The pipeline project is slowed by a diminished supply of pipes, an instance caused by the Christchurch earthquake.
Tauranga City Council is reporting work will also start on 18th Avenue between Devonport Road and Fraser Street.
Tauranga City Council is advising lane restrictions will be in place and drivers should use an alternative route if possible.
This information from Tauranga City Council weekly bulletin for the week beginning, Monday, May 16, published below.
City Waters
Water Supply:
- The water main upgrades in the Matua and Bureta areas continue in Levers Road, Clivedene Street. Ngatai Road, Bureta Road and Acklam Avenue, with works also starting in Vale Street.
- Water main construction has started in Papamoa Beach Road from Parton Road to Palm Springs Boulevard. The public is cautioned that there is a speed restriction of 30km per hour in place at the construction site.
- Cleaning, inspection and any required maintenance work on the Waikite #1 Reservoir is now underway.
- TCC has a presence at the Tauranga Home show this weekend. The theme is Sustainable Living with interactive models covering water efficiency, solid waste, eco energy and pollution prevention.
Drainage
- A number of blocked sump grates caused localised flooding in the recent rain event. At this time of year leaf fall can be an issue and it always helps if residents clear or report leaf blockages around their property. No major issues were reported in recent rain storms.
- Three reported sewer blockages, no overflows to any water way. One blockage was a private internal problem, one was suspected tree roots and the third was a ‘test plug' had been left in the newly built pipeline.
- Water quality for the 3rd Avenue West sewer overflow is all clear and signs have been removed.
- Six tomos around stormwater manholes, sumps or outlets occurred in the last week. Likely caused by high water tables after recent rains. Repair work continues.
- A section of Mangatawa open drain near Kairua Road has been cleaning of silt build up.
- The Topaz Reserve between Domain Road and Opal Drive is still requiring clean up areas near the drain. However, the saturated ground is hindering progress.
- Smoke testing of wastewater systems in the Topaz Drive area of Papamoa has been delayed until a few fine days are forecast.
Stormwater Pollution:
- TCC and WBOPDC have been working together to upgrade the look of the temporary health warning signs that are used for pollution and water quality incidents. The new signs are vibrant yellow and red, designed to be more visible. Both councils will use the same standard design for notifying water pollution incidents across the region. TCC will also be trialling some inflatable buoys, printed up as temporary warning notices that can be anchored offshore in high profile areas like Pilot Bay.
Parks and City Projects
- A section of the Mount Main Beach boardwalk will be renewed next week. Work starts on Monday, weather permitting.
- The Beach Road walkway repairs should be completed by the end of next week. (Weather hampered progress last week.)
