Easter book sale bonanza

Load up on reading material at the 23rd annual Tauranga Rotary Easter book sale this weekend at the Seeka Coolstores in Mount Maunganui.

The sale features more than 40 different categories of fact and fiction books as well as a large range of records, CDs, DVDs, sheet music and jigsaw puzzles.

'We have more books than ever,” says Tauranga Rotary Clubs publicity officer Ross Prestidge.
'We also have a silent tender with around 50 specialty items running throughout the weekend. It closes at 5pm Easter Monday and the winner can pick up their items on Tuesday.”
The annual sale is the club's major fundraiser for the year. Funds from the 2010 book sale went to a range of charities, including Books in Homes at Merivale and Gate Pa schools, Foodbank, Dictionaries for Schools, SPCA, Waipuna Hospice, Women's Refuge, Salvation Army, St Johns Ambulance, Greerton Kindergarten, Trees for Survival, Elms Trust, Ngatahoe Lodge, Welcome Bay Rugby Club and Tauranga Hearing Association.
'All the garages that contributed as collection points have the option to donate $500 from the sale to the charity of their choice,” says Ross.
'At the end of the four days, we usually have books leftover and a lot of this surplus is sent overseas to the islands. This year we are looking to give some of these excess books to local charities or groups that could use them first.”
Any charities which would like access to surplus books once the sale is finished can phone Ross
