The Thames-Coromandel District Council has announced it will be joining the Waikato Building Consent Group from July 1.
The group is a cluster of seven councils which works together to foster co-operation and consistency in building control functions, processes and documentation across the Waikato region.

Thames-Coromandel will become the eighth council in the group and joins the Hauraki, Matamata-Piako, Waikato, Waipa, Otorohanga and Waitomo district councils, and Hamilton City Council.
'The paperwork will be consistent across the group, which will be better for building companies that work across multiple districts in the Waikato,” explains building manager Corinne Hamlin.
'The same consistency will apply to the web portal we will use, the forms, the processes behind the scenes, the Quality Assurance systems, legislative interpretation and the services you get across these districts. You will also benefit from the collective technical capability across the group.”
Each council's Building Control Authority will retain its autonomy, which means people can still visit the Thames-Coromandel's offices to talk to the team and benefit from local knowledge – just with the added advantage of consistent systems and processes across the Waikato.
'Another advantage for you when we become part of the group will be a stronger national voice for building matters and more power through group submissions.
'So that gives you even more reason to let us know your thoughts on things that affect you,” says Corrine.

BUILDERS' STAKEHOLDER MEETING APRIL 27
You can find out more about the Waikato Building Consent Group during the Thames-Coromandel Council Building Stakeholders roadshow which heads to Whitianga on Wednesday, April 27.
The meeting will take place at council's Community Boardroom at 10 Monk Street and will run from 5-7pm. Beer, savouries, tea and coffee will also be available.
'If you're a real estate agent, a tradesperson, a planner, architect, designer or just a DIYer this is also a really good opportunity to come and talk to us about your work,” says Corrine.
During the meeting council will also talk about its latest successful assessment undertaken by International Accreditation New Zealand.
Council has received continued accreditation to process and inspect consents on the Coromandel, and was praised for its thorough internal audit processes with zero corrective actions recorded.
To RSVP for the Building Stakeholders meeting in Whitianga email Hammond Wickliffe at: [email protected] by Tuesday, April 19.
