Baby spinach recalled

A recall for Southern Fresh baby spinach has been issued after a batch tested positive for listeria.

Southern Fresh, a Cambridge-based company, recalled a batch of its washed salad products after consultation with the Ministry for Primary Industries.

A recall has been issued for baby spinach.

This followed a food safety warning issued by food delivery service My Food Bag, which is one of Southern Fresh's customers, telling customers to err on the side of caution and get rid of any spinach received in bags delivered on Sunday or Monday, reports Stuff.co.nz.

Southern Fresh Group general manager Jeremy Dunn says the products will be on hold until testing confirmed they are 100 per cent safe to eat.

Results are expected on Friday afternoon.

Jeremy says it's important to note that there have been no notified cases of listeria illness from eating the spinach salads. 'We are taking these precautionary steps to proactively protect our consumers.”

The expiry date of the batch affected is April 16, 2016.
