BayGold, the supreme winner of the 2016 Ballance Farm Environment Awards, will host a field day at its Te Puke orchard tomorrow.
Organisers are urging farmers, growers and rural business people to attend.
Matt Nelson, orchard manager and general manager Leighton Oats of Baygold are welcoming everyone to the field day at the orchard tomorrow.
'Anyone with an interest in sustainable farming should come along,” says Margaret Wright from the NZ Farm Environment Trust's Bay of Plenty branch, which organises the awards and field day.
'Although the field day is hosted by BayGold, which is a kiwifruit business, there is a lot to be learned for other farming and business ventures in how they do things and the level of understanding of what they do.
'For instance, how BayGold has developed its most profitable land and what it has done with the less productive areas can generate ideas for other farming and orcharding ventures.”

Plantings of native trees and enhancement of waterways is among the reasons BayGold is the supreme winner of the 2016 Ballance Farm Environment Awards.
BayGold general manager Leighton Oats hopes the field day attracts a wide range of visitors.
'We're looking forward to showcasing what we do at BayGold and what we do in the kiwifruit industry, including how we focus on developing people and helping grow their skills.”
Margaret says organisers would like people to register, for catering purposes. 'But we would not want to discourage people who decide to come along at the last minute from attending because they haven't registered.”
The BayGold field day is at 80 Roydon Downs Rd, Te Puke, from 9.30am-2.30pm on Tuesday, April 5.
