Bay Twister off to World Champs

Bay Twister Anna Grigson, 13, has been selected to compete for the Perth based Toxic Cheer Weapons Team to compete at the Cheerleading World Championships in Florida in April.

The Bay Twisters, Tauranga's premier cheerleading team, is only in its third year and competes at level, because they do not yet have enough members to make up a team for a higher level.

Teams at World Championships compete at level 5 or 6. So Anna's selection is remarkable and

It does mean the club is already able to produce athletes that can compete with the best in the World.

Two Auckland based club teams will also be at the World Championships.

The NZ Cheerleading Union is working on a programme to ensure the best cheerleaders from throughout the country will be selected for a fully-fledged NZ Team to compete at World Championships.

Anna has been selected only six weeks out from World Championships, where she will be one of the youngest competitors.

She has had to increase her training, and perfect a couple of new tumbling skills she has been working on to be as ready as she can be.

In comparison fellow competitors will have had close to a year to prepare.

Anna will travel to Perth on the 4 April to train with the team and attend a camp with USA coaches before she heads off to USA for some warm up competitions prior to championships.
