Free access to beach and foreshore

Your correspondent Maureen Anderson is beginning to sound like a broken down record! I hate to think how many letters she has written trying to instil fear into readers concerning the Foreshore and Seabed Act. I have a copy of a letter from her to The Sun way back in November 2010 still moaning and whinging. Our MP Simon Bridges and Prime Minister John Key have both categorically said, over and over again that there is no way any law will come into effect that will prohibit ALL Zealanders from having free access to the beach and foreshore for the activities they have always enjoyed. The Government knows there would be riots if that was ever to change.
It is interesting to note that the likes of Hone Harawira do not support the new Act as it does not give him and other Maori what they want! The Bill will allow Maori to seek customary title to areas they have exclusively occupied since 1840! How many can possibly prove that and, even if a tiny number could, it will sit along the common rights of public access to all activities including aquaculture and the operation or ports. Please Maureen Anderson give it a rest. There are many other causes you could support such as help to the earthquake victims in Christchurch!

Have not been following Maureen Anderson's take on F&S Act but rest assured whatever she has said in opposition about the shortcomings of this illconceived Act won't be nearly strong enough.Kiwis should be afraid very afraid about the true intent of this Act.Mary Brooks as usual is away with the fairies if she believes what Key and National MPs tell her. Many National Party branches can see the writing on the wall.
