I was always under the impression that a law that either could not or was not properly enforced was a bad law. Is this fact or fiction?
We have laws that say we cannot speed. Does this law only apply to the main highways? Judging by the number of vehicles that either tailgate or speed past me around town and I am sitting on the legal speed limit, this law does not apply in built up areas. How neat! We also have laws regarding posted signs that tell us what to do – like stop, you know what I mean, stop at compulsory stops. These signs are supposedly placed there to warn us of a dangerous intersection. If anyone was to observe these ‘compulsory' stops at places like Central Parade at the Mount, one would realise that these instructions don't mean diddly.
My message to the National Road Policing Unit is this – if you make a law, then enforce it. If you cannot enforce a law, then don't make it. (abridged)
