Family member locates Katikati man

UPDATED: Katikati man John Geldard has been located safe in Tauranga.

Police say he was spotted by a family member.

"In the short time that this appeal circulated police received a number of phone calls with information that would have been extremely useful going forward, had he not been located when he was," says a statement from police.

"We would like to thank the community for their assistance."

Concerns are being raised for the well-being and safety of a Katikati man who's been missing since Sunday.

John Geldard, 49, was last seen at his Katikati address, a caravan, on Sunday morning about 11am.

Police say John has a mental disability and no means of support.

"He's considered vulnerable and is easily disorientated away from home," says a statement from police.

'There have been possible sightings of John walking on State Highway 2, between Omokoroa and Whakamarama, later on Sunday afternoon."

Police say he was heading towards Tauranga.

John is described as a Caucasian and of medium build.

Police say he has thinning brown hair, a moustache and is 168 cm tall.

'It's not known what he's wearing but he tends to over dress and may be wearing a cap.”
