Hose & sprinkler ban in Hahei

The Thames Coromandel District Council is advising the Hahei community that a total hose and sprinkler ban is now in place.

Council says water consumption in Hahei has been 'very close” to consented limits for the past three days, despite the recent rainfall which battered much of the region.

A hose and sprinkler ban is also currently in force in Matatoki, as well as Tairua which council says is only keeping up with demand.

'The main [Tairua] reservoir level is steadily recovering but is still less than 50 per cent,” says council.

'The rate of recovery will depend on active water conservation. Please actively conserve water, above and beyond normal conservation practices, potentially until the peak population starts to recede.”

A sprinkler ban currently applies to the Whangamata and Omahu communities, while sprinklers are also banned in Pauanui too though locals are allowed to use hand-held hoses.

In Matarangi, hand-held hoses can be used on alternate days – meaning odd-numbered addresses can use water on odd-numbered days, and even-numbered addresses on even-numbered days.

The sprinkler ban has also been lifted in Whitianga, and like Thames, Puriri, Onemana and Coromandel Town, there are now no water restrictions currently in place.

The Thames-Coromandel District Council's water restrictions are reviewed daily, but updates are only provided when there is a change in status. To keep up to date visit: www.tcdc.govt.nz
