Kiwi: What’s my name?

A kiwi chick who hatched on Christmas Day in record time needs a name.

It usually takes a kiwi chick three to four hours to break out of its shell, but a Rainbow Springs chick arrived at 11.11pm at the Rotorua facility in 90 seconds.

Name the new Rainbow Springs kiwi chick, seen here at its five-day health check, and win a meet and greet. Photo: Supplied.

The 305.5 gram chick came from an egg brought in by Department of Conservation staff stationed at Tongariro National Park. The Rotorua attraction's first chick, in 1995, also came from Tongariro National Park.

Rainbow Springs is running a competition to name the chick and the winner will receive a family trip to meet the new arrival. The prize is for two adults and two children aged 14 and under.

It includes a family pass to Rainbow Springs and Agrodome, a VIP Kiwi Encounter experience, two nights' accommodation at the Millennium Hotel Rotorua & Spa (including daily breakfast and one dinner).

There are also 10 spot prizes of family passes to Rainbow Springs to give away.

Email your suggestions to info@rainbowsprings.co.nz.
