Reports are coming in of traffic delays following a crash in Tairua this afternoon.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says traffic is crawling for motorists heading from Whitianga to Tairua.

"We have heard that traffic is turning around heading back to Whitianga."

It's understood that a truck and trailer unit has crashed 7kms out of Tairua and the driver has sustained minor delays.

People are being advised to be patient until the crash scene is clear.

Thames Coromandel District Council is also reporting that a Street Smart truck has fallen off the bank south of Port Charles.

"Please take care on the roads and let us know if you didn't get your rubbish picked up in the Coromandel Rural area," says a statement from the council.
