A woman has been airlifted to Middlemore Hospital after being seriously injured on a crash in the Bay of Plenty on Christmas Day.

The 31-year-old Rotorua woman was taken to Rotorua Hospital yesterday following a crash on Ngongotaha Road around 4.30pm.

'Due to spinal injuries received in the earlier accident the woman required specialist care at Middlemore,” says a spokesperson for the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.

The Rotorua-based rescue helicopter was called in to transport the woman to Middlemore Hospital around 10.30pm.

'The flight was undertaken with the assistance of night vision goggles for the flight crew.”
