More arrests after alleged bashing

Three people are facing freshly laid serious charges in connection with an alleged bashing of a woman at a Welcome Bay bus stop last month.

This brings the number of people charged with an offence in connection with this incident to four, after police arrested a 38 year old Te Puke woman on February 16.

The 51 year old victim was hospitalised when police say she was bashed by a group at the bus stop on Waitaha Road.

The three latest arrests include a 25 year old Welcome Bay woman, a 20 year old Gate Pa woman and a 16 year old boy from Welcome Bay.

All three are facing charges of injuring with intent to injure and for aggravated robbery.

They appeared in Tauranga District Court this afternoon.

The charge of aggravated robbery relates to a mobile phone that was allegedly taken from the victim at the time of the incident.

Detective Alan Kingsbury says these three arrests were possible because of good information from the public.
