Facing Bay of Plenty in the final Canterbury's team of Momoka Kobori, Amelia Garvey Catherine Bell, Julianna Hung, Hillary O'Conner produced their best performance of the week winning all five matches to become worthy champions.

After making it through to the final in a dramatic playoff against North Harbour on Saturday, the whole side clicked to win the title for the first time since 1988.

With scores level it was up to Amelia Garvey and Ela Grimwood to lock horns in the semi-final playoff after their match finished all square. It was here where Garvey showed class finding the fairway followed by a safe approach and won with par.

Garvey simply couldn't hide her emotions as this means so much to these girls.

'This hasn't even sunk in, getting through the semi's was the main thing with it being so tight. I missed a couple of putts and then to get the first drive straight and not out of bounds then par the hole was awesome,” Canterbury number two Garvey says.

'I love this team, I think it's the best ever. The way we trust each other to go out there and have fun and with two of our players undefeated it just showed how great they all played this week.”

Ela Grimwood was a standout performer all tournament and remained unbeaten in regulation, so you must feel for her after sadly coming up short in the playoff.

Player of the Tournament was awarded to Canterbury's undefeated Catherine Bell who was their anchor in the middle order.

'Simply amazing feeling, so proud of the girls,” beamed the experienced Bell.

This is her home club which no doubt played a big part in her success.

'I had a few tricks up my sleeve, but with match play you never know so very happy to be in this position now.

'I didn't even want to watch the semi. The nerves were incredible.”

There were many great players and even better golf throughout the week and Hilary O'Conner played conductor in most of it. Leading from the front at number five for Canterbury, she too completed the week unbeaten.

Canterbury manager Kate Johnstone has planned for this for a long time and to see it come off is more than pleasing.

'Everyone kept telling us we had a good team, but we never tried to look at what the outcome was going to be and we have always said, each day you start again and this is where we have ended up.”

'It's hard to believe, I don't think I believe it yet. For Amelia to come from this morning where she looked like she had her game wrapped up, then to bounce back in the playoff was amazing so full credit to her.”

The top four this week created an amazing atmosphere and kept everyone guessing throughout the day. To go with that the local support was superb, turning out in hundreds as they supported the Ashburton Golf Club.

It wasn't hard to see during the week how much these tournaments mean to the players and their province. Bay of Plenty played exciting golf but sadly fell short at the death but Canterbury, you are now the 2015 Toro Interprovincial champions.
