A southwesterly flow over southern and central New Zealand spreads over the upper North Island on Monday following the passage of a trough.
This trough is expected to bring rain to northern regions on Monday, but warning amounts are unlikely, says the MetService.
The sun is expected to shine on the Bay of Plenty next week.
In the Bay of Plenty today, rain is expected to develop this afternoon, with the MetService predicting westerly winds to die out.
Tomorrow will see the occasional shower, but the rain is expected to clear by nightfall to make way for a relatively fine Monday.
'The southwesterly flow persists on Tuesday, then eases on Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure moves eastwards over the country.
'Late Wednesday a strong northwesterly flow develops over the lower South Island ahead of an approaching front, with gales likely about high ground.”
Temperatures in the Bay are predicted to sit around the 20 degree mark during the day and drop down to around 10 degrees at night.
According to the MetService's five day forecast, this is going to be the theme for most of the following week.
