Quarry Fest gains popularity

The annual Quarry Fest keeps proving a popular event and the new organisers Bethlehem/Te Puna Lions Club say they are keen to continue the legacy.

Bethlehem/Te Puna Lions Club secretary Martin Buchanan says it's the first time the Club has organised the event which has been running for about 14 years.

More than 2000 people visited the old quarry site which has been turned into a park.

Volunteers were busy collecting gold coin donations from visitors to raise money for the Quarry Park, which is a popular spot for walks and other outdoor adventures throughout the year.

Martin says there were 70 stalls selling things from food through to smoked garlic flavoured salt.

'I know Te Puna Plunket have got a big bakery stall. That's their main fund raiser for the year.”

The organiser says it was a real carnival atmosphere this year and the club were keen to continue the great legacy of making the event a popular place to visit.

'We have the guitar group from in town who have performed and the folk singing group in town have been very popular.”

Martin says all of the proceeds will go towards the upkeep of the Quarry Park.

A wonderful day, thanks to all involved. (Unfortunately there was some mischief, we retrieved a garden seat that had been thrown down the bank, and turned off a tap left running.)

Great Day Out

Thanks to all concerned - it was a smashing day out and the quarry gardens etc looked a picture after the recent 'Arts Festival'. Well done :)
