About 150 people took part in the Havaianas Lilo Challenge yesterday.

The participations took 1.6m long pink, green and black jandal-shaped lilos out onto the water of Pilot Bay and formed a giant jandal shape in the water.

The jandal formation was originally scheduled to take place on Mount Maunganui main beach, but due to swell was shifted later in the day to Pilot Bay.

So was there a point to this? Does it result in anything worthwhile? surely the engergies needed for this could have been put to good use, by helping people. Not to mention lilo's are not recyclable.
Fun

Does there have to be a point... Just a bunch of people having fun.. Maybe if you brought a lilo for a nominal amount you could donate to a charity and keep the lilo to have pure unadulterated FUN, like we did at the Mount back in the "olden days" and the kids today still do.... Long live fun and bringing people together.
FUN!!

The whole 'point' to this was a bit of FUN! I think you are far too serious blackcat... They were trying to break a record too I think but just a cool, fun event for kids and adults... And hey the lilos are recyclable - you can use them over and over again! :)
Lifeguards - raising money

My 12 year old son also just informed me they were raising money for the lifeguards too with each lilo jandal sold.
It's business!

Obviously it's also a business promotion - for Havaianas footwear and probably Lilo too! A marketing ploy that combines water, the beach and jandals + fun = a positive brand experience for their potential customers.

Yep it is good to bring people together and have some fun, but this can be done to the benefit of others as well. Good to hear lifeguards will beneftit, would be sad if it was just an advertising campaign for Havaianas.
