Voting packs posted out: TCDC

Voting packs have been mailed out to all registered eligible voters in the Thames water supply area for the upcoming referendum on November 5.

The Thames-Coromandel District Council has called for the binding referendum, which is being run by Election Services, to determine if fluoridation of the water supply should continue or not.

The council will be taking a neutral stance on the issue and will not be releasing any materials on the pros or cons of fluoridating water.

Since the 1970's fluoride has been added to the Thames water supply for the purpose of reducing tooth decay. The Thames water supply area of service covers properties from Tararu in the north to Kopu in the south and to Te Ana Lane in the Kauaeranga Valley in the east.

Over the next few days all eligible voters will start finding voting packs in their mailboxes.

Voting papers can be returned by post or hand delivered during normal office hours to the district Council main office on Mackay St in Thames.

All votes must be received by 12pm on Thursday, November5, and council asks that if you're mailing in your vote to allow at least a few days for it to be delivered.

If you are expecting a pack but it has not arrived by Monday, October 19, you can request a special voting pack by visiting council's main office or by calling the Electoral Office.

If you believe you are eligible to vote but are not absolutely sure, you may still qualify for a special vote.

For more information on the referendum visit the Thames-Coromandel District Council's website at: www.tcdc.govt.nz/fluoridereferendum or contact the Electoral Office on 0800-922-822.
