Coromandel FM farewells listeners

With a simple 'goodbye and God Bless” much loved Coromandel FM broadcaster and news editor Mike Bain signed off for the final time.

After 25 years of beaming into homes, cars and workplaces all across the peninsula, the iconic radio station has been taken over and relaunched by multiplatform media company Mediaworks.

Starting today the station has been rebranded as Coromandel MORE FM and will broadcast on the same frequencies which Coromandel FM enjoyed for a quarter of a century.

Speaking on air last Thursday, Coromandel FM news editor and broadcaster Mike Bain took his opportunity to have a final word to listeners.

'Today it is with sadness that in a minute I'm going to leave this studio for the final time,” Mike reflected. 'But before I go I want to thank everyone that's allowed me the privilege of being a part of their lives.

'I especially want to thank the people of Mercury Bay who made both my wife Mandy and me so welcomed and accepted us in their community.”

Mediaworks announced in August it would relaunch the station and general manager Kate Rigg says they'll continue Coromandel FM's tradition of 'providing exceptional radio to our listeners and clients.”

It will also continue to operate from offices in Thames and Whitianga, with Kate promising the new station will have 'great music, fantastic talent and the latest technology”.

'I would like to thank Rex, Alan and Mike for their contribution to CFM over the past few years and wish them well in their future endeavours.”

During his final broadcast Mike believed Coromandel locals would welcome the new team and embrace them as part of their lives 'as you've done with us at Coromandel FM”.

'Thanks for listening, I hate goodbyes but I must say it - goodbye and God bless,” said Mike.
