A project looking to preserve and develop Coromandel Town's unique CBD environment and heritage character is now underway.
The first step in the Coromandel Town Centre and Streetscape Project is to develop a document that'll provide clear reference and direction for the CBD's on-going preservation and development.

Initiated by the Coromandel-Colville Community Board, a community stakeholder working group has been formed this week.
This group is working interactively with the community board, plus area manager Greg Hampton and landscape architect Kevin Dwyer to help develop the guidelines and design concepts.
The group has also invited representatives from Iwi, the business, heritage and arts communities to be involved.
The Coromandel Town Centre and Streetscape Project will draw from previous community plans and the guidelines will include a number of recommendations.
These recommendations will focus on a streetscape design suite for the town centre, design concepts defining and enhancing gateways to the town and town centre precinct, input results from traffic and mobility assessments, and landscape concepts for parks and reserves and public spaces.
The project will also look to identify sites and opportunity for public art installations, as well as potential walkways and cycleways to link public spaces.
