UPDATED: Power has now been restored to affected properties in Whangamata following a network fault this morning.
The outage was reported to Powerco just before 8am and was restored in the last hour, at about 10.30am.
The electricity and gas supplier has been investigating the cause of the network fault this morning, but at this stage it is not yet known what caused the power cut.
Powerco is New Zealand's second-largest electricity and gas distribution utility, with around 420,000 consumers connected to its networks.
