Tauranga in top 20 destinations

New Zealanders have rated Tauranga one of the top 20 favourite destinations to visit in the country, according to online accommodation service wotif.com

Although Auckland held the top spot again in 2010, Wellington knocked Christchurch from its perch at number two.
Christchurch had done the same to Wellington the previous year.
Tauranga was ranked 13th on the list.
The North and South Islands were equally represented in the Top 20, with 10 destinations from each region.
Wotif Brands general manager Megan Magill says there was quite a bit of jostling on this year's list.
'We've compiled the list based on bookings made by both leisure and business travellers in New Zealand throughout 2010 and have noticed a few changes compared to last year.
'Franz Josef Glacier was a new addition to this year's list at number 20, while Paihia, Wanaka and Invercargill all moved upwards.
'Meanwhile, Te Anau moved down three spots from 12th to 15th.”

ditto with Hamilton being rater higher than Tauranga, also most of the other ones ahead of Tauranga. But hey maybe it is a good thing, there are enough people here already, keep our nice beaches to ourselves.

Perhaps it would be interesting to know the criteria for assessing these towns. If it includes 'fog, smog' or any other weather related items then Hamilton and Palmerston North would be higher than Tauranga.

For Real?

I am flabbergasted that Invercargill is anywhere near the Top 20. Honestly, this is ridiculous. What a crap survey

Challenge...

Until Tauranga can accommodate the demand for corporate functions/banquets then we'll always be behind the eight-ball. It's a challenge for local government and private sector to capitalise on. The survey sounds like its based on the number of bookings on the cheap accommodation website, and not whether they liked the destination.
