Relocatable clubrooms considered

The Thames-Coromandel District Council says the installation of relocatable clubrooms at the Mercury Bay Multi-Sport Park is being considered.

The facility has sufficient changing room and toilets within its amenity block, but due to the historic overspend during the construction of the entire facility a clubroom space was put on hold.

The Mercury Bay Recreation Trust is responsible for external funding for the facility and has considered a range of options for clubrooms that will best benefit the various sporting codes.

'We conducted a needs analysis report and the Trust is recommending clubrooms be a new build on-site, but transportable,” says chairperson Bill McLean. 'A concept plan has been developed from a list of specifications and we've presented it to all the codes.

'This option is a cost- effective as a medium to long-term solution and having it be removable will allow funds to be recouped when/if there is sufficient funding to justify the construction of the second level on top of the current amenity building.”

In the wider, long-term plan for the facility, it is the second level of the amenity building that will be used for a permanent clubroom and social area.

Bill says any construction on the second level of the building is expected to be at least 10 to 15 years away, possibly more.

'So for the medium-term our objective is to source funds through external funders and funding grants, along with the support of all the codes that use the Sports Park, to look at a relocatable option that is cost-effective.”

The Trust has also presented the concept to the Mercury Bay Community Board.

Board Chair Paul Kelly says it approves the concept of developing a clubroom facility and have asked the trust to prepare an external funding application. This application would include cost of architect drawings for a designed relocatable building.
