A summer in winter

Art Beat
with Rosalie Crawford

I attended the opening of Creative Tauranga's group exhibition Mid Winter Summer and met Lynne Dara, who is showing some of her pen and ink work.

Lynne has been creating artwork for approximately 55 years and uses oils, acrylics, mixed media, watercolour and clay to explore images of people and landscapes.

She has travelled and painted widely, studying traditional, impressionistic and modern art through the major galleries of the world.

Her paintings in the exhibition reflect the mood of early morning landscapes where the still atmosphere is broken by birds rising off the water or a soft nuance of light and shadow creating a sense of drama.

The work in the exhibition ranges from very tiny miniatures from Alison Ede, to a stand out whimsical piece and my personal favourite from James Stanbridge, to the sculpted wood wall hanging from Mount sculptor and carver James Atutahi.

The artists exhibiting in the Mid Winter Summer are James Atutahi, Alison Brain, Sarena Smith, James Stanbridge, Tawhai Rickard, Christine O'Reilly, Vanessa Locke, Jaz Bennett, Alison Ede, Murray Clode, Cat Thompson, Joyce van der Lely, Mary Hayward, Millie Newitt, Miriam Ruberl, Adair Davis and Evie Batts. The exhibition runs until 10th July.
