The signature multisport event in the Bay of Plenty is one of the largest multisport events in the country. The event attracts both the elite and casual and this spectacular 67km course can be tackled as either an individual or as part of a team.
It's huge on community spirit and the massive spectator support behind all competitors ensures everyone gets over the finish line in Te Puna.
If you can't do the full distance individually round up schoolmates, workmates, family and friends and enter the popular team event.
We can assist with extra gear, kayak hire or even finding additional team mates for you. No excuses – come and be a part of the fun!
The journey:
• 5km Off-Road Run. A stunning collection of trails inside McLaren Falls Park.
• 17km Mountain Bike. Varied terrain alongside the picturesque Ruahihi Canal.
• 11km Kayak. Safe and scenic paddle down the Wairoa River.
• 26km Road Bike. Predominantly flat blat through the streets of Te Puna.
• 11km Road Run. Testing finale through the Te Puna countryside.
This was one big day – all the participants arrived around 7am for the individual competition and at 8am for the team event at the 11th annual Kaimai Classic.
It was Luke Garea's first year as organiser and he did a few changes on the course which definitely spiced things up.
One of those changes was adding another 3km on the road bike and the 5km run was a different course involving a little bit more bush to challenge all the competitors.
On Sunday morning, Life Personal Fitness arrived with two teams ready to work hard. After all the participants helped to put the tent up, we headed to the first leg (5km run), which we have Clare Pearson for one team and Grant Webber the other. Leading to the next leg was (17km mountain bike) Warren Nolan and Morgan Dynes.
Warren and Morgan did really well. After the mountain bike was the 11km kayak which we had Julie Haines and Cameron Dynes.
After just over one hour they passed the transponder to Lisa Jones and Bronwyn Harris and they hit the road on the bikes for a 26km leg.
With the road bike we had the rain arrive just to refresh all the competitors.
Passing the shirt and the transponder to Ben Holdwera and Julie Haines for the 11km road run, there was an amazing finish line scene.
All the teams from Life Personal Fitness finished with nice and very good times, considering only two people from both teams had done something similar before.
