Subtle and intense

I am really enjoying the wines from Margrain Vineyard and their 2009 Chardonnay is a real palate pleaser. Margrain is a boutique estate in the Martinborough region, producing superb handcrafted wines.

In typical Martinborough style, this wine is relatively clear, clean and lively, nice to just sip on its own, or try a glass or two with a herb crusted pork cutlet.

The 2009 season saw a very warm summer which produced beautifully ripened grapes, able to be picked before the autumn rains. The result is this lovely intensely peachy flavoured Chardonnay.

It has a lovely soft, yet full mouth feel, with a very slight subtle toasty oakiness coming from the 10 months of fermentation in French oak.

It will drink well from now until 2014. Enjoy a bottle over Easter and check out the video review on www.sunlive.co.nz

The Weekend Sun has a bottle of 2009 Margrain Chardonnay to give away to a lucky reader who can tell us how many months the wine ferments in French oak.
