Train victim in serious condition

A woman remains in a serious condition in Tauranga Hospital today after being struck by a train near Ngatai Road in Tauranga.

The 48-year-old woman was struck by a train at around 8.30pm on Sunday, with police still investigating how she ended up under the middle of the train.


Emergency services at the scene where a woman was struck by a train near Chevron Drive.

The incident happened near Chevron Drive and, at the time, the train had stopped on the tracks.

The woman was transferred to hospital with life threatening injuries.

A Tauranga Hospital spokesperson says the woman is in a 'serious but stable” condition this morning.

SunLive has been unable to make contact with Tauranga Police for an update on the investigation.

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

The scene is close to a pedestrian tunnel, connecting Ngatai Road with Meadowland Street in Matua.

It is about one kilometre west of a controversial pedestrian access over the tracks that connects Ngatai Road with Seaway Terrace, which has recently been closed by Kiwirail due to safety concerns.
