Mount clothing burglar jailed

A Mount Maunganui man has been jailed for two years and nine months for committing a spate of burglaries, including stealing almost $15,000 worth of car parts and clothing from a sleepout in his suburb.

Adrian Thomas Kapua, 27, appeared before Judge Thomas Ingram for sentencing in Tauranga District Court on five burglary charges this week.

The charges are two counts of burglary between $500-$5000, two counts of burglary over $5000, and one count of receiving property under $500.

Between April 29-30 Kapua entered and burgled a business premises on 1st Ave in Tauranga before breaking into a sleepout on Seaspray Drive at Mount Maunganui.

At Seaspray Drive, Kapua stole DGA brand clothing – including hoodies, singlets, crew necks and T-shirts – which Mount couple Brandi Buchanan and Hayden Kirkwood sell via an online business.

The clothing was intended to be sold online under the name Jokers Wild Customs.

Kapua also burgled a home at Karewa Parade in Papamoa and an Oceanbeach Rd address between May 1-5.
