There should be a permanent electronic sign on Welcome Bay Road so when events like this happen (or that time when a crash on SH29 brought traffic to a standstill for several hours) people are aware and have the option of turning back. Radio traffic reports are never up to date, and we're not supposed to be checking our phones when driving. As it is, you don't know until you get onto the roundabout which route is busy/at a standstill/closed completely.

I wish people caught in these kinds of traffic jams would understand that it always catches everyone off guard.. no one plans when or where it might happen. If people just learn to the conditions all could be avoided.. not fun picking up pieces of human to clear the roads for the next person to cause a catastrophe.. WAKE UP AND CONCENTRATE PEOPLE!!!

Hmmmm

Once again this stretch of road causes misery to many and if it wasn't this stretch of road it would be one of the many others. Am I wrong in believing that this is one of the core responsibilities of Council, To keep our transport networks safe and free flowing. In this particular case we have a state highway closed due to an accident (completely understandable) but where is the alternative route capable of keeping traffic moving? Turret Rd onto 15th Ave? Barkes Corner down Cameron Rd? Baypark to Bayfair and on to Hewletts Rd? Bottleneck after bottleneck Mr Mayor and your MAJOR concern is building somewhere in the CBD to eat your lunch???????

In days gone by such accidents did cause hold ups, but not to the extent of the hold ups these days. With modern cameras and police everywhere first take the injured to hospital, then take some photos, then get the vehicles off the road. My target for this would be 45 minutes, not hours and hours.

Well said "makes you wonder" For heavens sake nobody is just going to close a road off for the fun of stopping the traffic. Turn your radio on or if you are STOPPED phone someone to see what is happening. The emergency people are far too busy trying to save lives at these accidents they can't run along the road telling everyone what is going on.

Four points need addressing to be fair to emergency services. 1) There is a huge increase in vehicles on the roads these days, so can't be compared with
