Rider airlifted after leg fracture

A 28-year-old man is in Waikato Hospital after fracturing his leg when it became entangled in his bike this afternoon.

At around lunchtime today, the Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was called to Waihi where the man had come off his mountain bike while riding in a nearby forest.


The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter has flown an injured mountain biker to hospital.

Pilot Liam Brettkelly says he received lower leg fractures after his leg became entangled.

'He was riding alone and was able to call for help using his cell phone,” says Phil.

'His leg was stabilised before he was flown to Hamilton for further treatment at Waikato hospital.

'The helicopter was used because of the patient's location and the serious nature of his leg injuries.”

He was up to date with his ACC payments. OH! Of course not he's a cyclist!!! I wonder how much this one cost his recreation funders?
