The exhaust fumes have now cleared over Whangamata as it returns to normal following the 2015 Repco Beach Hop which wrapped up yesterday.

A crowd in its thousands descended on the Coromandel town and surrounding areas for the country's largest five days festival that celebrates cars, hot rods, music, comedy and more.

More than 100,000 people were expected to turn out and a humungous crowd would have been the perfect way to celebrate the Beach Hop's 15th birthday this year.

One of those punters was founder and former president of the Bay of Plenty Mustang Owners Club Bart Ingram who says it was an absolutely brilliant Beach Hop this year.

'I've probably been to about eight Beach Hops in my time and this year's festival was definitely a lot better than ones I've been too in the past.

'Considering it was as wet as it was, you couldn't have asked for a better crowd; the peoples' spirits were really good and it looked like everyone turned out to simply enjoy themselves.”

When asked about which cars got his motor started during the event Bart says: 'Don't even get me started.”

'There were some beautiful machines mate, but way too many to mention. The main parade in Whangamata was just fantastic, you really had to be there.”

There was a small amount of chaos at times due to people wanting to escape the weather, but all-in-all there were no dramas from Bart's point of view.

He was hugely impressed by the 'slick outfit” of organisers who did well to manage the massive crowds.

Bart says: 'It was great to see a good mix of people there as well.”

'Quite a few people that I ran into hadn't been there before and they were absolutely impressed with the event.

'This year was also the first time in a very long time that I've managed to go up to Beach Hop and stay because I've been able to. It was absolutely brilliant.”
