Bethlehem duo blast Trident

An outstanding opening partnership of 231 runs, by two Bethlehem College batsmen, dominated the headlines in the WBOPCA Secondary Schools First XI competition.

Cameron Riley blasted 110, with Luke Bryenton in equally dominant form against Trident High School smashing 105 runs.

Both batsmen scored at near a run a ball, with Cameron belting 17 fours and massive six in his turn at bat while Luke's contribution resulted in 11 boundaries, as their side posted 291/5.

Bethlehem was always in charge in the Trident turn at bat and removed the Eastern Bay side for 136 to claim an easy victory.

While Bethlehem College have finished their Term One campaign with 18 points and will sit on the sideline in the last round after drawing the bye – attention will now turn to the First XI title race, with Aquinas College and TBC Blue squaring off to decide the Term One championship.

Aquinas and the Tauranga Boys' College side warmed up for this weekend's title decider with a win apiece last Saturday.

Aquinas bowled TBC White out for just 98, with Williams Doherty taking three wickets for 22 runs. However, Aquinas were made to work for their victory losing six wickets, with Andrew Randrup anchoring his side with a gritty 48 runs.

TBC Blue had a good tussle with Taupo Combined Schools before posting the win points on offer.

The Taupo representatives were removed for 164, with Oakley Dench starring with the ball taking a five wicket bag. Jared Tutty led the way for the Tauranga Boys' team with a solid 61, as they got home with four wickets to spare.

Mount Gold chased down Otumoetai College's total of 176 for the loss of eight wickets. Louie Morris top scored with an unbeaten 67 for Otumoetai with Nathan Walker leading the Mount to victory with 84 runs.

Competition leader TBC Lords will meet second placed Aquinas White to decide the Divsion Two title. The Tauranga Boys side won am armwrestle with Te Puke High School last weekend to retain thier place at the top of the standings, while Aquinas White defeated TBC Wanderers.
