Health warnings have been put in place for Lake Rotoehu after routine monitoring results confirmed a bloom of potentially toxic blue-green algae.
'The health warning means that people should avoid any activity which results in significant contact with the lake water,” says Medical Officer of Health Dr Phil Shoemack.

Situated between Rotorua and Whakatane, the lake is the smallest in a chain of three to the northeast of Lake Rotorua.
The lake is fed (underground seepage) by Lake Rotoman to the east, and flows westward joining Lake Rotoiti.
Contact with algal blooms can cause asthma and hayfever attacks in susceptible individuals, as well as skin rashes, stomach upsets, and in some cases neurological effects such as tingling around the mouth, headaches, breathing difficulties and visual problems.
Signage will be erected at Lake Rotoehu advising potential lake users about the algal bloom. Monitoring will continue and any changes in advice will be communicated accordingly.
This follows a similar health warning being put in place last month for Lake Okaro.

Wasted my breath trying to warn you aye Maori what was about to come to pass on this planet & here too for which many of you attacked and harassed not only me personally but my children. All without due cause when I always came and went in peace. As I said all through the last three decades roundabout this country only for my urgent message to fall on deaf ears upon those much to arrogant and aloof and up themselves to even engage in an intelligent debate as to how to prepare. Be assured this fast accelerating climate change is just get warmed up. Mega Death on its way humanity and whether one is Maori or Pakeha or Tauiwi the game of APATHY IN THE FACE OF OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE is over. NOW WE ALL REAP THE LETHAL CONSEQUENCES GOING FORWARDS.
